Graphene Modified Resin Cooperative RD Agreement

Haydale Composite s (UK) has entered into a collaboration agreement with Huntsman Advanced Materials to develop a range of graphene-modified resins to complement its existing product portfolio.  

Under the agreement, Huntsman will have exclusive global distribution rights for Haydale's of resins modified with functional graphene. This includes Huntsman's well-known Airmaster epoxy resins. The agreement also allows Huntsman to purchase graphene-modified masterbatches from Haydale for use in composite and adhesive products. Huntsman has also committed to working with Haydale alone to develop graphene-modified masterbatches with specific target properties.   　　

Over the past year, the two companies have worked together to develop graphene-modified masterbatch and resin formulations with higher fracture toughness and higher thermal conductivity. Through further technical optimization, Huntsman resins modified with Haydale's graphene will be even better in these two metrics to meet customer needs.  

“In addition to the two indicators of fracture toughness and thermal conductivity, over the past year we have also witnessed an improvement in the electrical conductivity of our products as a result of the new resin formulations. “In fact, the use of graphene to improve the performance of epoxy resins is not new, and similar research efforts began several years ago. But so far, it has not been possible to reach large-scale mass production.” David Hatrick, vice president of Huntsman, said, “Our collaboration with Haydale has already begun to bear fruit, and the process has overcome a number of difficulties. With the signing of this formal agreement, both companies will continue to invest human, material and financial resources to accomplish our R&D goals and develop performance-optimized resins and adhesives for the composites industry. We hope to have a major breakthrough in the industrial mass production process within the next 6-12 months.”
